Thanks to everyone who replied. I think you're both right. It was prob. a foreign substance that had made it into his mouth (then to his hands), or onto his hands. It hadn't done it earlier in the day, my hands didn't seem to do it, and it hasn't bothered me before or since. Prob. just over-reacted.

Also, Malachite, thanks for the advice to avoid specific products. And bebop- good thought about the spicy stuff. It's a possibility and it would make sense why it would burn me alive.
