I've been having strange auras lately, mostly without pain. Went to the ER a week ago today and they ran all sorts of tests on me. Everything came back normal from the brain CAT scan, the sonogram of my heart as well as the one of the main arteries in my neck leading to the brain.
Day before yesterday, I went to my ophalmologist for my yearly check and new glasses. When I told him about the auras, he explained a migraine to me. It is a blood vessel spasm. If the spasm happens below the head, you have an aura and pain and other things. If the spasm happens on the top of the brain, you also have the auras, pain and other stuff. If the spasm happens somewhere between the neck and top of the head, all you get are the auras and no pain.
The name "occular migraines" is a misnomer because they have nothing to do with the eyes. They just cause visual disturbances.
When I told him I was refered to a neurologist, he told me that the neurologist would tell me the same thing that the ER doctor told me "everything looks good and clear." He suggested I tell my GP about the auras.
The reason I was given a heart sonogram was to see if there was any cholesterol that might have come loose and caused a TIA, not because heart decease causes migraines.
A migraine is a blood vessel spasm between your neck and your brain!
AND... couldn't you just brain the doctors and other people that pass off everything wrong with you because you are overweight??

They do the same thing to smokers!

JERKS!!
(I just got rid of a circular aura by putting on the shades they gave me at the opthalmologist. Could it be the computer glare that is making them happen? Who knows!)
