SweetSunshine, you might also want to consult with a dermatologist. I am in my 40s and have been on prophylactic oral antibiotics for about a decade now. They have really helped my acne. Before that, nothing would help me, not topical antibiotic creams, not special skincare routines, nada! The oral antibiotics have really done the trick. My dermatologist explained that it is not only the bacteria-killing property of the antibiotic that helps, but the anti-inflammatory property of the antibiotic. So even if a blemish does occur, the anti-inflammation part of the drug helps keep the blemish from getting angry and red and painful (and scarring). I have hardly gotten any new scars in the last decade due to the antibiotics.

I had to take birth control pills for several months last year and my acne completely cleared up while on them. I was able to stop antibiotics and have clear skin. It was great, but when I went off of the hormones, my acne returned even worse than before and took a while to calm down even with antibiotics. So hormones can be another solution.

Even though parts of my skin are really oily, I do use a moisturizer. I really need it now that I'm older. I use the oil-free moisturizer from Clinique.
