Thanks ((Sky, Sabby & Muffy))

Sky - Yeah, that's what made it particularly rough. He never intended to make it his career. The recruiters caught him at a time when he was desperate for educational opportunities and a paycheck, not to mention healthcare benefits - something we could no longer provide for him. He originally signed up for only two years.

I feel like all this time I've had to sit on the sidelines as my only child walked through fire, even when he wasn't on deployment because of the racial hatred he had to endure from higher ups. We weren't expecting it to be so bad, but he was caught between a rock and a hard place. Hopefully, this experience has only made him stronger.

On a sad note, he and his girlfriend of almost two years had to break up, so no grandchildren in the near future. She's still over there, and still has a few years to spend in the military. I really liked her and they really appeared to love each other, but the odds are so stacked against them. My son will be leaving her his car. I was impressed one of his priorities before he leaves is to make sure the car is tuned up and ready for her when she gets back.
