Yes, they certainly make drug companies money. A good part of our medical system is market-driven.
I won't get into capitalism vs. other systems, but I will say that, in the marketplace, things that don't work eventually quit selling. People aren't sheep; they only let their physicians give them ineffective drugs for so long.
Antidepressants can be very unpleasant to people who don't need them. Maybe you don't, which would be great news for you--you may well be able to improve your symptoms without the side effects of meds.
