mp,
i have to disagree with one thing eskielover said, "Oh how blessed are the people that don't have problems". that is not true. when you see a big storm and huge trees that blow down, sometimes it happens because the trees had never experienced a lot of smaller storms and when the big storm comes their roots are too shallow to anchor them well and they just come crashing down because they were not used to the buffeting of the winds.
i don't mean to be argumentative, but it is the storms of life that help build strenths and roots in us for the biggest storms of life.
i guess i believe the kind of quotes that say blessed is a people who's God is the Lord. Which says to me that people who can trust God are blessed by it when they have deep troubles and need a sturdy anchor to help them get through it all. God will hold us tight even though it feels like we are in a raging storm. i saw a painting of that once. most people feel that a painting of peace would be a quiet pastoral scene where all is tranquil, but this picture showed a violent wind storm around a cliff by the ocean and a small bird had a nest in the crevass in the rocky cliff and was sitting on her nest peacefully while the storm raged about her but didn't get to destroy her little shelter in the storm. Most often I think God offers us peace IN the storm rather than peace FROM the storm.
