I think there are some grounding techniques on a sticky note on the top of the PTSD forum that might help your friend. It's so hard to be in situations like that when dissociating so much. When I can, I try to ground by concentrating on things around me, maybe a piece of paper or pencil in my hand, or cracks in the sidewalk or sipping on a cool drink. Sometimes really focusing on something can help calm down inside and distract enough that I don't fly off into the clouds. It doesn't always work but it is helpful the times it does. Maybe some other people will have some more ideas too. Best of luck to your friend.
