While I can't diagnose people over the internet your symptoms seem consistent with ADHD. They also sound specific enough that you should definitely get it checked out. Make sure whoever you see is experienced with ADHD. It's not hard to diagnose it if you see it all the time (heck even my ADHD patients have seen it in other people and referred them to me for treatment). Go to www.addresources.org (not .com, but .org) and print Dr. Amen's symptom list. While I think he's full of it that he can diagnosis ADHD with a brainscan into 4 different types, he does have an excellent checklist. Print two copies. You fill out one and your wife fills out one (about you, not her). You both should use as many specific examples as possible (write on the back if you have to). Then take both papers to your clinician (and make sure your wife accompanies you). This will make the process as effective as possible. Better to go to a psychiatrist if possible for the meds, other docs are not as familiar with the treatment. You may well need psychotherapy to help you too, find a therapist that is familiar with ADHD too. Most of the national ADHD associations have listings of ADHD specialists state by state (including addresources.org). Also buy the book "Driven to Distraction" (not Delivered from Distraction). If it reads like a biography of you - welcome home brother!
