Applause to you on the redecorating your room. That's a big thing. Can be a hard thing, too, when you come across, as you said, John things. It would be a little scary if you didn't feel upset at those things. As you move things out and find things that either were given to you by him or remind you of him, take a deep breath, hold the object or memory for a moment, be thankful of having had the experience, and put it in a box or bag or pile. Allow yourself some tears if you need to. Then refocus on the task at hand. I'm speaking from having just done this a little over a month ago. Dave moved out 5 months ago and there are still birthday cards I find, he still has some clothes here, his coffee pot is still on the counter. But when I rearranged the bedroom it hurt, but focusing on the task helped. Telling myself I'm doing this for ME. ME ME ME. It helped. It supposed to be hard, it's climbing over a rock on your path to healing. You can do it, and you can do it while feeling a little down without letting the downness (new word) engulf you. I'm proud of you for wanting to redecorate as a 'new you'--that shows you're thinking of you, thinking in the positive and wanting to make changes. You can always go rest on your clouds when it gets to be too much.
