when i build things up really big in my mind they almost always disappoint me. two things come to my mind that have helped me.

1. limit my expectations. take things as they come and don't fantasize in advance how i think they "should" be.

2. make gratitude lists. this is not about Thanksgiving Day. it is an everyday type thing i do. when i am feeling down i make myself list anything and everything i can be grateful for. i write down even tiny little things and pretty soon my mood stablizes and even perks up(depending on where you are at, this can take a few days or maybe just a few hours). focus is what can make or break you. requiring myself to focus on positives in my life just helps. complaining drags me down (don't misunderstand me, we all have real problems. i'm talking about constant griping about everything - there's a difference)
