The small town close to me was barely on life support until Wal-Mart opened. I'm not defending Wal-Mart nor its policies, but the town actually revived when Wal-Mart came in. More restaurants, hotels, fast food chains (well, maybe not so good) and a movie theater opened up. The only other grocery store in town, Kroger, had to do some much-needed renovations, and that was a good thing.
