My phobia isn't "classic" germ phobia. I am not afraid I'll die from some horrible desease if I am contaminated. Germs do bother me a lot. But it's also "cooties"--it's the only word that comes close to defining what I mean.
I feel anxiety but it is DISGUST more than anything. I have rules that neutralize the disgust and the anxiety. And there are some things I just can't do. They are just too disgusting.
Anyway, my question is for anyone who has OCD and has had a new ob/com forming and was able to STOP IT in it's tracks????? How did you do it????
Because, if I don't stop this before it becomes a full blown behavior, I could have serious physcial problems.
Sorry for the vagueness about what the thought & compulsion is, it's just too embarrasing and disgusting to talk about.

i was once told about something called "stop thoughts", which simply put means as soon as you feel yourself obsessing or having an un-stoppable compulsion, to say STOP! in your mind and immediately switch to something esle. occasionally this has worked for me...it might be worth a try for you...
