I agree, Bebop, that the grandmother had nothing to do with the child's disappearance, but she seems to be in denial about what her daughter probably did to the little girl. The grandparents clearly adored the little 2 year old, and I'm sure it is hard for them to deal with the fact that their own daughter was/is capable of being such a sociopath.
