They are riding horses starting at the point where Sitting Bull was killed in North Dakota to the point where Wounded Knee happened in South Dakota. They will be riding all day - sunrise to sunset - and it will take them about two weeks. They are provided with warm clothing and food at the end of each day though.

It can be brutal with the subzero temps and howling wind on the Plains, and it's not like they are fully dressed for the elements. It's hard to imagine their relatives made that trek starving and dressed in flimsy clothing. One of their leaders, Big Foot, was old and suffering from pneumonia at the time. I have a hard time getting out of bed when I have a cold!
