I started to get the odd coarse hair on my chin when I was in my 20's. And one or two on my abdomen. And one or two around my breasts.

I wasn't sure whether it was normal or not...

Turns out that it is a hormone issue. The jury is still out on whether it constitutes a 'disorder' or 'abnormality' or not... Some think that it is a variant within normal range... Guess it depends on health insurance ;-)

Are your periods and / or is ovulation painful for you? Do you have regular periods? If you are a bit irregular in your periods then this might well be part of the same 'syndrome' (remaining neutral on whether it is a disease or not). Sometimes... An excess of testosterone is produced in the ovaries which leads to the extra hair and sometimes leads to the egg getting stuck on its journeys through the fallopean tubes... Sometimes the stuck eggs can result in painful ovulation...

There are birth control pills that are designed specifically for this one - period pain goes away with the egg not getting stuck... Hair should gradually lessen (though after about 6 months of treatment). There is controversy over whether it is a cosmetic issue or not... But the birth control treatment should help with that...
