I've never been able to use tampons comfortably. When I do have to use them, I use the smallest ones available and change frequently. I am unable to use the ones without the applicator or the plastic applicators. I've only ever been able to use tampax with the paper applicator. My problem (sorry for graphics) is that I'm a very heavy bleeder with a lot of clotting. Tampons increase my cramping.
