welcome to pc, laurie.  i wouldn't attempt to even put a label on what your son may have but since he's startng a day program at a psych hosp. monday i would imagine there is a pdoc or T there that can help you with this. after observing your son it will be easier for them to come up with a diagnosis. sometimes it's difficult to determine a diagnosis in children primarily because children can mimic disorders just growing up emotionally. best wishes on your journey to get the help your son needs.
