I've had EMDR off and on for years. For a period we were doing it really intensely like every week, now it's more sporadic, mostly when we're doing ego state integration work. I really like it and find it to be incredibly helpful, although it still kind of freaks me out a little.

I find it incredibly intense and always have a really strong physical reaction to - with muscle spasms, and some twitching when we're doing it, but I usually find myself really high energy for a day or so after doing it.

There's different types of bilateral stimulation that can be used in EMDR. It doesn't have to be completely visual - it seems to be the bilateral stimulation that's important. When I do it with my T, she has these little electric pod shaped things that I hold in either hand and the alternate vibrations. We switched to that after I had a problem following light moving across a bar. I'm very sensitive to visual stimulation, and that just made me throw up. Haven't had any problems with it since we started using the hand held things.
