You know...I think it helps my hands also. I have arthritis in my hands, and I think it helps them to crochet. I know how to do the double crochet, and I'll check out the granny ripple pattern as well.
It sounds like you have some good storage options for your projects and yarn, which is essential with pets! My 7 month old pup loves to get into the yarn!
