I'm not sure if anyone has touched this issue or not but I'd like to recommend the Feingold Diet.
My son is suspected to have ADD (still in the process of diagnosing) with hyperactivity tendencies. I put him on this Feingold Diet and realized he was sensitive to dairy products and certain fruits and vegetables. After I removed these items from his diet (and replaced them with nutritional alternatives ), his hyperactivity mellowed out. No more fits, hitting or major temper tantrums. He appears to be more focussed and can sit through a sitting for longer periods of time. I'm not going to suggest that this is going to work for everyone but it sure did work for my son.
I'd recommend trying this method before prescribing ANY medication. You have absolutely nothing to lose. Sometimes medications have adverse affects that cause psychotic-like tendencies. Doctors prescribe anti-psychotic drugs on top of it, not realizing it's the initial medication that's triggering the behaviours.
There's a lot of controversy that comes with this diet but there are new studies that suggests that this diet IS after all successful to some. Give it a whirl and see what happens. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. I'm not a doctor but I've done some extensive research on this topic.
Thanks!
