henry david thoreau wrote a book called "walden". he was an advocate of simple living and of civil disobedience to seek a better government, not abolishing all government.
living in quiet and serene surroundings would make such philosophical musing easier and more profoundly moving. i know when i do get to go to someplace remote and quiet and beautiful i tend to spend time in contemplation and spiritual musings and longings for closeness to God.
