I've read the words to the song and I'm thinking that the song is about awareness. The awareness that life has had repetition of pain in some sort or another, and that something needs to be done to try to bring an end to that. But, before that final leap into the knowledge that comes with awareness, the singer would like to spend one last time in the bliss of ignorance. He would like one last time to continue things the way that they are, even though they've been found to be detrimental...to savor the life that was. because, even though there was pain, there was a beauty in the comfort of it all.
