They are uncomfortable after a while. I had an EPS done a couple years and darn it if my heart wouldn't do it, even with stimulation! However, as I work closely with an EP, I know they are very effective ways of finding electrical problems. That whole HRS website is very informative. One of the problems with wearing the monitor is it is anxiety-causing, therefore it is not a normal scenario. They also have what they call "loop recorders" that are implanted, much like a pacemaker, except they don't give any therapy. It records the ekg and is left in for approximately a year (or until there is a diagnosis).
