Hi there, I was dx schizoeffective and BPD 15 years ago. Don't know much about OCD, only that it is pretty nasty. How old is your son?
Not much info on schizoeffective and generally, it does require psychiatric intervention. I had therapy for many years to learn coping skills and I have had many hospitalisations, but I had many factors involved with more than 1 dx. I also had periods of anti-psychotic medication which could possibly help with the OCD inadvertently. Medication also depends the age of your son.
You may not find many people with schizoeffective........I could be horribly wrong but I have never encountered another person with this disorder. But thats just my experience. Prove me wrong!!!!!
It is treatable and with the right help, your son can lead a content and happy life. Just a heads up, my obsession was algebra. So when I felt paranoid or scared, I did algebra. I guess indulge your son in a repetitive calming technique outside of the OCD traits that has a positive outcome for him.....even if it is a little wacky. I bet your son has an above average intelligence. Play on that.......but not with ideation.......that breeds paranoia. It has to play on the problem solving part of the brain.......not the creative, thinking part........does that make sense???
Not saying it will work for him as we are all different but it worked for me.....if you need to talk more, please feel free to pm me and we will try and nut it out.
Good luck and I'm glad that your son has you for a mum
