I am a smoker as well however I am very aware of who I smoke around. I smoke in my car, my bathroom and at work. When I am out and about, it's really not an issue. I would just say politly, that you are very allergic to cigarette smoke or say that your asthmatic. Maybe it will be easier for you to say something like that. A little fib is ok in this instance.
