I'm terrified to tell my boss I'm quitting. Any advise on turning in a resignation? I figure that my boss has always been so wonderful to me so I'm going to give a 30 day notice instead of just 2 weeks. Is that a good idea? Anyone here in management that can offer advise?
Ry

Hi Ry, first before I forget, I love Jenn's idea about getting the letter of recommendation for your future.
I think it's a good idea and very thoughtful of you to offer the 30 days notice, since he's been so wonderful to you. I'm sure he'll really appreciate that kindness
As far as the resignation itself, type up a letter, thank him for the opportunity of working for him, tell him how much you've enjoyed your position there, the invaluable experience that you have obtained that you can take into any future job prospects, that you are sorry that you're leaving such a good working environment that you've enjoyed but that you really want to move back home to Texas to be with your family and friends. Basically, tell him the reasons for your resignation are only because you want to go back to Texas and have nothing to do with your job or the company you are working for. Make a point of telling him how much you love your job, the people, the experience it gave you, the wonderful relationship you have with your boss, you know, butter him up with all the good stuff.

And tell him you're sorry that you'll be leaving such a positive working environment.
Anyway, that's what I'd do. There's really no way to make this easy. It's definitely a situation that can bring on anxiety, you don't have any choice but to just force yourself to go into his office at the appropriate time and just hand him the letter and tell him you wish things were such that you could stay in Detroit and continue working for them, but Texas is calling you home and it is something that you feel is going to really help you to have a happier life, getting back with family and friends that you miss very much. You really just got to force yourself to do it. It's not easy but unfortunately, it's gotta be done. You'll feel a 'huge' sigh of relief after you come out of his office, albeit, the adreneline may still be in high gear for a bit.
Good luck, you'll do fine, you always do. I'm so proud of all the positive changes you are making in your life. I think this is one of the best decisions for you, to move back to Texas. So very, very proud of you!!! Love ya!!!
