I agree with all that madisgam says, but I would add that children need rules and boundaries. Sometimes being a good mom means you have to be the bad guy, you have to say "no"... Even when it makes you hate us. Communication is also necessary.

Remember always, your mother is human first. As I tell my own kids, I've worked very hard to avoid the mistakes of my parents, but I've made my own in the mean time. I've done everything with your best interest at heart.

I think it's very easy to see everything that she's done wrong, and very easy to overlook all of the things she's done right. It is also extremely easy to say what you would or wouldn't do in a given situation, much different to be in that situation responsible for another human being's life.
