On an OCD website I read that OCD comes in forms which can be thoughts only or have physical compulsions as well.
In a long depression (now passing) I suffered from the intrusive thoughts, and it was much as you describe. The good news in your post is that they are not constant (as mine were) and you do have a measure of control.
IMHO these symptoms tend to overlap, and intrusive thoughts come as a part of depression, anxiety and other diagnoses. The main thing is to get some treatment/therapy and sort out strategies to get our lives back. It can be done.
