I don't know if this will help you but I hope it does.
I used to find counting to myself helped. The faster my mind seemed to be going the faster I would count until this settled down again.
I discovered that the more upset I got the wrose the 'episode' got. If I could get calm things seemed to ease off some.
Try to find something that might deliberately calm you down, like staring at a candle or doing some relaxation exercises.
Believe me I know this is easier said than done but if you keep using it, it will get easier to do.
Getting calm is the answer.
I once heard a voice when I was very upset and pleading for help, it said "We can help you but you need to calm down to hear us."
