It's sort of hard to explain, because it's a little of both 
And yes, my parent's are very loving people, to me and my brother. They've been divorced since I was 5 though, and I'd say my mom and step dad are in a very loving relationship. My dad loves my to-be-step mom a lot but she also has a lot of insecurities from past bad husbands so it seems like whenever they talk to each other on the phone he has to spend a lot of time reassuring her and arguing with her because she says bad stuff about him and herself.
