It sounds like he is attempting to let you know that it's okay to connect, that he is open to it and looking forward to a deeper connection, and that he is there and will be there. It sounds like possibly he is aware of your dissatisfaction and fear about connecting and was looking for a way to soothe that, and encourage and reassure you.
