I'm not on Adderall, although I have a friend who says it works great for him. As far as "doing your own thing", I think it's an "ADHD" common behavior to seek out distractions of interest. The theory is that the ADHD mind has more trouble focusing on tasks of low interest, so he/she tends to seek out activities that involve higher levels of interest (we basically need a greater stimulus than the non-ADHD brain to maintain focus). Meds are supposed to address that by increasing the levels of neurotransmitters in the pre-frontal cortex of the brain. If Adderall helps you to maintain focus and be less "anxious/depressive" than it's a good fit. I do well with Welbutrin, so I'm sticking with that for now. (But my friend seems to love Adderall) Every brain is different. Meds only help, they won't make you focus on every boring thing for hours on end, they're supposed to give you the mental state to be able to practice these things. A lot of times, without meds, I was just too "wound up", stuck in some problem of the past, pacing back and forth at home, not able to move forward. With the meds, my attention was more focused on the present moment. Anyway, I didn't address all your thoughts, but that's my 2 cents on the "doing my own thing" issue.
