Sounds like a very unsafe place to be living in. When ceilings get that wet, they can fall in on you, an over the bed.....no way is that safe. I would think that there are some building codes that are required & could be reported if nothing is done.
Many yrs ago when I was renting an apt, the stove/oven wouldn't shut off. We talked to the manager about it & he told us there was nothing that could be done with it for days. I simply told him that I would talk to the fire dept about the danger it presented if something wasn't done about it immediately. That afternoon, he contacted the owner, & had it replaced.
It is amazing how a well placed complaing can get you the solution you need. I also think that Jenifer is correct when she suggested re-reading your lease. If these things werenot disclosed to you before you signed the contract, then you have the way out with your deposit. It is more hassle but if all fails.
