I know you see it as not a big deal and being stupid, but every one of those people would rather "over react" than not do enough. Imagine if you really wanted someone to notice you and your pain, wanted help and they knew and did nothing. They did what they did not only because it's the law but it's the law because so many of us who are depressed or who SI don't want anyone to notice us at all, want to be invisible, and they know that you're not likely to be honest and seek the amount of help needed on our own. It was done out of caring and a desire to see you get help if you needed it.
