Oh my! I didn't realise there was a name for this either.

I too pick constantly. I usually pick my face, any blemish or part of my face that I don't think looks right. I'll pick out spots and keep digging at them until they get infected. I've had one raw area on my face (on the chin) since before Christmas. I just can't let it heal up. I've tried stopping, by cutting my nails off... but then I use other things to pick with, tweezers and pins etc. I've even been so desperate that I used the nearest thing available - a carpet tack

I'm a self harmer, too. I find it impossible to let self harm wounds heal, I pick at the scabs that form, it takes months for the cuts to go.

And I pull out hair, too... but not normally head hair, - I pick my eyebrows and eyelashes, and the hair that covers my arms and the top of my legs.

So, what is compulsive picking actually called, anyone know?
And I agree with the others who say they 'zone out' whilst picking... I totally do that. I can't leave my face alone... and often 'realise' that I'm doing it.
