Great question!!
Yes, DID can be "cured" in the sense, like DianasClan said, all parts/alters can integrate.
The general theory is that all the alters are not technically different people. They are broken fragments of the one person which tend to take on a life of their own, including names, ages, physical characteristics, etc. With integration, which can be emotionally difficult from what I've heard, one goes through a lot of treatment to bring the alters back together so they blend into one more formed personality state. Some people choose this route of treatment and are okay with it. Some others choose to do like DianasClan and work on improving communication between the alters and to live more cohesively.(This is what I have learned and is my understanding of things)
There are some strong opinions out there as to what is the better way to go about treatment. As far as I'm concerned neither is better or worse than the other. It all depends on what the person wants and is comfortable with.
For me personally, I don't really want to integrate at this point. I think I share DianasClan's ideas of just improving the communication between my parts. I have been broken in pieces my whole life.....I don't know how to be any other way and the thought of losing that is very scary. Someday, I may feel differently but for now I think I'll keep all my parts around.
Thanks for your question. I appreciate it when people want to learn and instead of just getting it off the TV or something they actually take the time to speak with the people who live with it.
