BPD does suck, but there are ways that you can help yourself learn to cope. This can be difficult!!
Have you ever worked with DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)?
I don't know if you have any local programs near you, but there are some great DBT workbooks out there that can really help when the urges come forward.
I did 8 mos of this treatment and it helped a lot....although I still have VERY difficult times, I find it easier to cope and I find that my reaction time between the impulse of wanting to SI and actually doing it has lengthened allowing me more time to use interventions that don't require SI.
BPD can be very difficult to treat. The most difficult thing about DBT is utilizing it in your daily life. For it to be the most helpful, you really need to be open to helping yourself and fighting back against the negative thoughts and emotions.
