since the forums are threaded and posts move down as new posts are added.........responding to an older post is a way of "bumping" it to the top of the forum so it is current once again.

Or a way of bringing attention to a post that has slipped by.

That's how I've thought of "bump" when used with threads in forums. If others know then by all means chime in please!
