I have been in and out of AA for years, and think it may not be for me. I see a substance abuse counselor, and am thinking of trying some SMART meetings. She supports either. Just wondering if anyone has gone to a SMART mtg and knows what that is about.
Thanks.

I'm a secular type of person, so SMART Recovery Tools have helped me more that any other recovery modality has. I don't have any SMART meetings to go to. I do attend open AA meetings as I don't identify with some of the concepts of AA enough to go to closed meetings. F2F support has helped me greatly, as I tried to rid myself of drugs/alcohol without outside help in the past with no luck.

Here the link to SMART.

I also find the Addictive Voice Recognition Technique (AVRT) of Rational Recovery (RR) a good recovery tool also.

Here's the Wiki link to RR.

I'm just thankful there are viable options for recovering from addiction. Otherwise I'd be doing this addiction treatment deal on my own again.

it doesn't matter what group we go to if it helps us stay clean and sober. AA is not mandatory for achievement. best wishes!

I like someof the tools SMART provides.

If you're female, you should also check out Women for Sobriety. I love their program.

Thanks for the heads up on SMART. I checked it out and ordered the book. I found it nearly impossible to join their forum...all kinds of snags.

I read RR also and studied the AVRT and it was helpful. AA was never helpful.

I've been thinking about using some of the SMART tools. I went to AA for a while and decided it's not for me.
