i noted that she references the NY times as well as psychology today magazine among others. i feel that makes her article more credible and in a more simplified version. being an alcoholic in recovery i was curious about other addictive personality traits i might have. perhaps this will be informative to others too.
Quote:
Addiction is a dangerous dependence on a substance or activity such as alcohol, drugs, or gambling. It can be a disease that ruins lives, both of the addict and those around him. Scientists have discovered that certain character traits are common in addicts and may be indicators of an addictive personality. These traits include minimizing and denial, low self-esteem, and normalizing.

Fortunately I don't have any addictive personality traits, but I did become addicted to harmful substances none the less.

I did have a MI before I started using drugs. And that may have had something to do with my addiction. Also there many, many probable causes that can lead one to become addicted to drugs.
