I am Bipolar 1 and we have a tendency to abuse drugs. A week or two ago I ended up in psych ER and when they asked if I drink I said "everyday for the last week and a bit" but before that not very often. They asked if I wanted to go to AA. I said "after a week?" I don't have a history. My only alcohol history is occasional drink. I'm not supposed to drink on my meds, either.

AA always says if drinking is a problem in your life....you don't have to drink heavily or drink everyday to find alcohol and drugs a problem, If drugs and alcohol are isssues then you probably would want to try AA OR NA(NARCOTICS ANNONYMOUS). They're great meetings.
Re: the link between bi-polar disorder and addiction. Lots of people self-medicate with alcohol or drugs to cope

Go to a meeting. It costs nothing. Then you can decide for yourself if you have things in common with the regulars. If you have been abusing alcohol, it is as good a suggestion as anything else.
