I'm starting DBT for borderline. This place also offers DBT for substance abuse. I've tried quitting or cutting back on drinking several times. I'm starting to think I may have to quit drinking in order to reach long-term stability.

I think a lot of folks self medicate for soothing themselves. In the long run, it isn't the key to feeling better as I'm sure you already know. I think you kinda answered your own post here in reaching long-term stability. Best of luck to you. hugs, bj

By using the term "I'm an alcoholic" I think you answered your own question on whether you have to quit drinking. Alcohol will mask and confuse your other symptoms. Best to you in your recovery.

In college I was doing so much drinking that none of my meds worked. Please take care of yourself, talk to someone or go to an AA meeting. There are online meetings as well.

Hi hun, I also have borderline, querying Bipolar and alcohol issues. I have also done DBT so I can relate to your issues! I have found DBT an absolute life saver -literally. I am still having issues with alcohol though. I agree with what you've said about alcohol getting in the way of stability. Alcohol personally increases my self harm and suicidal behaviours. My DBT therapist has said he feels it is hindering my ability to improve and has said he won't see me again until I've stopped drinking for 2 wks! I'm gutted but do appreciate this as it is making me stop and look at things properly. I love my DBT because it helps, so it is good motivation for me. I know my Therapist is right so I am currently sat here writing this shaking and sweating and trying to get through it for 'the greater good'!!!

Good luck chick xx
