Thoughts, sayings and justifications about drug or alcohol use:

"it's the first one that gets you drunk/high".
ever made a promise to yourself to just have one or two? then instead the drinking ramps up and you can't stop til u're completely done with the bender?

"if i switch my poison it will tone down my useage."
like beer to wine, etc. how is that working for you?

"we drink/use to gain a feeling" (elation, freedom from worry, free from stress, etc) OR "we drink/use to get rid of a feeling(s)" (anger, depression, escape, to be numb and not feel.) EXCUSES NOT REASONS for why we drink/use.

if alcohol or drugs don't have a first priority in your life, why can't we just put it down and not return to drinking/drug abuse?
if alcohol or drugs weren't so important why do we "make a deal" about how and how much we drink? is this what everyone does that drinks?

after a binge to keep worries at bay ("i'm so stressed!", "my emotions are driving me crazy! i can't stand it another minute!, "alcohol etc will calm me", "if you had my life you'd drink too!") do you find that everything is "fixed" when you "come to?" or is everything still a dismal mess?

"i don't drink/drug everyday so i don't have a problem."

"i'll stop tomorrow."
tomorrow never comes, does it?

"she drinks so why can't i? i'll show you!"-justification

can you see yourself in this post? i certainly can recall thinking this way before i got sober. the question is why do we put so much importance in the alcohol/drug? are alcohol/drugs the supreme solutions to life? do they dictate what, when and how we live our life? is self medicatiing with drugs and alcohol the solution OR the problem? if we don't feel we have a problem why do we go back and vow we'll stop again?
