I am on my way to being sober, however I have alters that are not in agreement with being sober. Thank goodness the binge drinker hasn't been out in sometime yet the social drinker has. She was the last one to get drunk. It's been a little over two weeks now without a drink. I worry that the more sober time I get the stronger the urge for the binger drinker will eventually come out. I can't screw up my sobriety since my treatment relies on it. I have to have sober time before I can work with a therapist that hopefully deals with DID. Just wondering if anyone else that deals with DID and alcohol has had similar experiences?? Thanks.

i'd tell the person who requires sober time before you may see a therapist that your alters conflict with your sobriety. you have the honest desire to stay sober. i hope you'll be able to see a T in spite of the expectation otherwise. hope you'll keep us posted just2b.

Well I was working with someone; however, she wasnt aware that I was very new to soberity. I had been drinking 3 to 4 times a week in social settings. And when she found out she told me that she cant not work with me being new to soberity, and that I have to be sober in order to work on DID issues. So I met with my pdoc and she said that she found other therapists that have said the same thing that I have to be sober. Right now I have no one, well except a IOP counselor that I will start seeing next week. No therapists for me until I see my Pdoc again in 4 weeks.

hang in there just2b. since you are drinking only a few times a week stay busy instead and the 4 weeks will go by swiftly. i'm bipolar and a recovering alcoholic. i couldn't have dealt well with therapy unless i was sober. it worked out good...painful at times but if i had that crutch-alcohol--i never would've gotten better. it would've been too easy to reach for the easy way out-escape/alcohol.

That is actually what I am afraid of. Is once I get sober and start working with someone that my drinking alter will come out and binge drink because of the work we are doing together. Damn DID! !!
