I have been pondering this question for the last 11 days and I came up with a very interesting answer: It wasn't at all a waste. I have had so many experiences that I have actually learned from, become stronger because of, am able to admit my shortcomings without fear, and I am also able to reflect on all my accomplishments. It is incredible how powerful focus is. In the past I would have just focused on my shortcomings, but it is really all the good you take away from your experiences. Isn't it?
Thanks for this!

You're absolutely right John. I'm amazed at all I've learned since joining AA. I thought I was "mature" when I joined -- but then I realized that I was just a "kid." I couldn't believe how naive and immature I was. I had so much to learn about liife and about myself and I DID learn all that thru AA.

Yes it really is all the good you take away from your experiences. And i've taken away an awful LOT of good thru the years!

I'm very grateful to AA for getting/keeping me sober! And for helping me grow up! God bless Hugs, Lee

yes john we can learn to recognize our strong points and realize we aren't bad ppl. just sick ppl trying to get well one day at a time.
if you work the steps you will do step 4. there we take an honest appraisal of ourselves..assets and liabilities. we can learn to change the liabilities and turn those behaviors around to be assets. like i would sometimes get mad and lash out. today i can take that anger i used to have and modify how i express it making a positive change.
how's the rehab thing going?
