Days of Healing, Days of Joy .............................................Nov. 20th

"When men are full of envy they disparage everything, whether it be good or bad. ..................................................................Tacitus

Envy is like a moth that gnaws away slowly until the garment is ruined. The sad thing is that envy damages not an easily replaceable coat or sweater, but our lives.

In what ways does envy hurt us? It makes us cynical, for one thing. Nothing can be satisfying once we are riddled with envy. No one can be on the level, nor can such things as honor, altruism, or just plain friendship be accepted as real and possible.

A chronically envious person has difficulty maintaining friendships. There is too much pain in closeness. Envious people need distance to protect themselves, and because of this need, they are often alone and lonely.

The program offers us a lifetime of gifts - each one with our name on it. What we have coming is better than we can imagine. Envy damages our ability to come into our own.
