Hi I was just wondering if anyone could give me an awnser for the last year I have been really stressed out and recently I saw a doctor and he thinks I have ocpd.
to cut a long story short I have been self medicating for a year due to stress with paracetomol, ibopurfen and asprin because I have headaches, neck aches and pains I guess this is because im kind of depressed and stressed out but my question is if I wanted to stop taking them how long would it take my body to get them out of my system.
as I know its not doing me any good taken them long term and I know if I stop taken them I wont get the aches and pains.

so if anyone has any idea how long it will take for them to clear my system it would be great help for something to aim to

thanks tom

Since they're all over the counter medications, I wouldn't think they'd take TOO long, but alot depends on how much you've been taking.

I have no way of knowing, but I would THINK that 2 weeks would probably be enough to clear them out. I'm just guessing tho, cause as I said I don't know how much you've been taking. So it's just a guess. Hugs, Lee

Drink plenty of water; that will help speed the process.

Using plenty of water you might be surprised at how quickly you will recover.

thanks genetic I will try that from tonight I have cut down from 8 to 4 a day over the last few days and cut out the paracetomol completely and just using ibopurfen and asprin now as I read that to much paracetomol can lead to liver damage.
I will defo try drinking lots of water from tonight to see if that helps clear to system and stop the headaches and pains so much to

Wow, taking that much aspirin, you're lucky you didn't start bleeding from the stomach or bowel! YIKES! I'm glad you're quitting it! God bless! Hugs, Lee

Hi,

You may want to get your liver enzymes tested. I have to once a year bc of taking my large amount of medication.

Peace,

Hey all so quick update I cut down from 150mg tabs to 75mg tabs now aswell and ive been checking online a lot to why I was getting the headaches and pains in the first place.
seems I drink to much tea smoke to much and haven't been eating 3 meals a day for a long time and this could be the cause of them.
so im trying to drink a lot more water now and will try to cut my 20 cups of tea down a day and eat better hopefully this will get rid of them slowly and make me feel better.

will keep you all informed how it goes

I don't think it's just a question of the drugs getting out of your system; it's your habit of taking them that you have to address. You have become psychologically dependent on them (and tea drinking, smoking, etc.) so the pains and problems may not go away just as quickly as one would think they would until you address the underlying problems that started the self medicating in the first place.

I would go at it the other way around; concentrate on exercise and diet first and let the meds and excesses fall in line from there. As you've learned, too much tea/caffeine will give you headaches (and withdrawal from caffeine, a drug, is fierce and will give you a headache when you're completely off it for about a week!), etc. I think it is going to be a long, bumpy ride for you
