The Red Road To Sobriety

I just heard about this recovery. I have been doing 12 step for 30 yrs. and never
liked the nilistic attitude toward humanistic thoughts. 'you are wrong, HP is right'
and so many other things. i always felt like I disagreed with everything in
12 step except for the 'safe space' (no guarantee of that) and
remaining out of politics , religion and corporate issues.

but from the little I have been able to suss out from the Red Road path of
using an Alcoholics Anonymous approach blended with Native traditions and
values, it sounds much more intune with my being, humanistic, and
natural.

Has anyone any experience with this new contemporary path of old ways
and has access to the info. ? I am too far north for there to
be a influx of this teaching, program or attitude.

Thanks
Sandee

Hi Sandee! Too bad that no one else has added to this thread.
I haven't had a chance to try the Red Road approach, though I would be interested in doing so. In fact perhaps I will check it out and see if there is something similar here in my city (I'm in Canada). I know there are various Aboriginal addiction healing groups and I have often thought of getting involved in one of them because like you, although I have used the 12 steps to recover and found them really useful at one point, I now, at 7 years sober and recovering from other major issues, am not finding them so helpful in maintaining my sobriety or in building a healthy perspective of myself in relation to the world around me, which is important with my values and beliefs.
I will let you know if I find anything out. One thing I have tried that I really enjoyed, and you may have near you, is the 16 Steps to Empowerment and Discovery. Charlotte Kasl developed them and they are amazing. Totally non-demoninational (a denomination is not even implied) and working more towards a holistic health in all areas of life, and empowerment from within.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
