Does my sponsor have to be a recovering alcoholic? I wanted to use my boyfriend's mother but she has never had a problem with alcohol. Thanks for any answers!

Yes, your sponsor should be a recovering alcoholic - ideally someone whose recovery you admire. They should have some solid time sober, at least a few years, and have worked the 12 step program themselves so that they can guide you through it.
