I have struggled with ADHD my whole life. I recently reached the highest dose of my concerta and now I can't stop taking it. I took 3 this morning and got the highest I've ever gotten. Jeez.

Concerta has the potential to be very addictive.

I would express concerns with your doctor.

Bleu, I have adhd and addiction issues too. Its difficult to manage both of them at the same time and the meds can be very dangerous to abuse. If you are getting high from the concerta then it might not be the right med for you. My stimulant meds don't make me high because they are just compensating for my adhd. My brain does not react with euphoria the way most peoples' do when they take stimulants. They don't rev me up either, they actually calm me down by slowing my thoughts and lessening my impulses. I'm not going to preach to you about abusing your meds because you already know its a problem and that you need to stop doing it. Do you have a plan?

I have no plan yet, I'm a college student and I have had ADHD my whole life. My doctor recently switched me from adderall to concerta, and amped up the dose the the highest possible one considering my grades are suffering and I cannot sit still in class. I just think the dosage may be too high because I'm only 5'1, 120 pounds. I just think it's too much for my body

My suggestion is see your prescribing physician ASAP. Perhaps an adjustment is all that is needed. having little knowledge about ADHD meds other options may be available or a combo of meds. Idk.

Hi Bleu
Can you tell me your dosage? My 17 yo son is at 108 mg but he is about 180 lbs. I am worried about the addictive properties of his meds. We control his meds now, but that cannot continue forever

The directions for my concerta is take one 54 mg in the morning and another mid day. I am not on extended release. I used to take adderall and it was much less addictive. Since being on concerta I find myself zoned out, forgetting where I am at, and not able to function without it. The scariest part is I find myself craving it. I'm 18 and when I started college is when the bumped my dose up. I just think it is too much. Honestly I'd recommend trying to switch off concerta before it's too late, it's ruining my life, I was doing much better on adderall.

Dear Bleu, you definitely need to speak honestly with your provider about this. In 2013, college freshman abused stimulants more than any other legal or illegal drug. I'm not saying you do not need this medication, it may put you at risk for others' trying to get yours. Dangerous stuff. Our son's doc compassionately weaned our 14 year old off his Vyvance last summer to see how he would do without. No withdrawals and he is actually doing better socially and academically. I'm not saying this is you, I just know it is possible to safely come off these meds and do well in life.

I wish you well.

Blue, yeah, it'd be a good idea to talk with your pdoc about this issue. Now that you've abused the concerta, the adderall might become dangerous for you too. There are many different ADHD meds and your pdoc might be able to give you one that will be safer for you.

Hi blu. I too was addicted to ADHD meds in college and the result was a seizure. Be careful bc if it happens ull just feel embarrassed. I don't take ADHD meds but I self treat with diet pills and I'm addicted. Guess you never escape addiction. At least for me.
